  1. 6 oranges
  2. 5 1/2 pints cold water
  3. 1 lemon
  4. 3 1/2 lbs sugar
  1. Peel oranges (remove all white skin) and cut them into thin slices, rejecting seeds. Slice lemon (removing all seeds) and add to oranges. Cover fruit with cold water and let stand 24 hours, then boil for 3 hours. Add sugar and boil 1 hour longer. Cool and pour into hot, sterilized glasses (or jars). (When cold, cover with melted paraffin and place covers on glasses).
