  1. 10 lbs green tomatoes
  2. 1 lb onions
  3. 1 to 2 lbs apples
  4. salt
  5. 2 quarts vinegar
  6. 2 lbs brown sugar
  7. 1/4 oz cayenne pepper
  8. 1/4 oz cloves
  9. 1/4 oz cinnamon
  10. 1/4 oz peppercorns
  1. Time 24 hours to stand.
  2. Slice tomatoes into a dish and sprinkle each layer with salt. Let them stand all night. Then put into a pan with the vinegar, sugar, sliced onions, pepper and spices. (Before adding the tomatoes, they should be drained from the salt). Add the pared, cored and sliced apples. Simmer all till tender. Then bottle.
