  1. 6 oranges
  2. 1 quart water
  3. 1 lb dried figs
  4. 2 1/2 lbs sugar
  1. Put oranges in pan with the water and boil till tender. Remove them from the water, and cut in halves and scoop out the pulp. Slice the peel thinly, remove the pips and pith from the pulp. Cut up and wash the figs and put them in the pan with the orange water, sliced peel, pulp and sugar. Heat gently and stir until the sugar has dissolved, then boil all together till the juice sets when tested.
